How to Distinguish Different Cores in Multi-Core Cables

Multi-core cables are widely used in various industries, including telecommunications, power transmission, and data networking. These cables consist of multiple cores or conductors bundled together within a single outer sheath. Each core serves a specific purpose and it is crucial to be able to distinguish between them for proper installation and maintenance. 1. Color Coding

One of the most common methods used to differentiate cores in multi-core cables is color coding. Each core is assigned a unique color which makes it easier to identify and trace during installation or troubleshooting.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has established a standard color code for electrical wiring purposes:

Brown: Live or phase conductor Blue: Neutral conductor Green/Yellow: Earth or grounding conductor Black: Switched live conductor (commonly used for lighting circuits) Grey:,  White: Additional neutral conductors (used in three-phase systems)

In addition to these basic colors, other colors may be used depending on the specific application or industry standards.

2. Numbering System
