1. Flame-Retardant Level 1

These cables have a limited ability to resist flame propagation and self-extinguish once the source of ignition is removed.

Level 2 flame-retardant cables offer improved fire resistance compared to level 1. They are commonly used in commercial buildings where higher safety standards are required due to larger occupancy and potential hazards present.

The insulation material for level 2 cables is usually made from cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) compounds. These materials provide better flame retardancy properties than PVC and emit lower amounts of toxic gases when exposed to heat or flames.

In addition, level 2 cables have enhanced self-extinguishing capabilities, reducing the risk of fires spreading along cable routes during an incident.

3. Flame-Retardant Level 3

Level 3 flame-retardant cables offer even higher levels of fire resistance compared to both levels 1 and 2. They find applications in areas with increased risks such as industrial facilities or locations with high-density occupancy like hospitals or shopping malls.

The insulation materials used for these types include silicone rubber or mica tape wrapping around conductors which provide excellent thermal stability even under extreme conditions such as direct exposure to flames for extended periods without losing their insulating properties significantly. These materials also emit minimal smoke and do not release toxic gases when subjected to high temperatures. Furthermore, they possess exceptional self-extinguishing characteristics that prevent fires from spreading along cable routes effectively.
